What do our school and system leaders need to know, need to have, and need to support as we move away from the Covid -19 technology use era and into the 2023 technology era? We all know that we want technology to be more about creating a sustainable learning environment for all learners, but are we ready? Do we have what it takes to teach and support learning in the next ‘trending’ area of technology development?
Recently, I read an article titled, The Future of Learning: Educational Technology Trends to Watch In 2023 by Guy Sheetrit (December 21, 2022). I read that article because a college professor asked me how I thought some of these things would impact our k-12 schools and I had no idea. In that article, I learned that because of the huge increase in one-to-one technology from 2019-2023, leaders now need to be more aware of coming trends. These new innovations may include any number of the changes listed below, but of course, we will not cover all of these in our one four-hour training.
We will discuss how your system can be well prepared for today’s learner, and for what the future holds. Monica Farner and Central Technologies will keynote our event, and we will hear from two nominated system level leaders who are helping prepare their systems for the future every day.
Some trends Guy Sheetrit (2022) suggested that we might want to learn more about include:
“Nano-Learning This is a system of learning that provides concise information for students to absorb and retain with no hassle. It provides learning resources such as texts, short videos, and sound bites, which provides the solution of a condensed time window. This bite-sized learning style caters to the younger generation.”
“AI Artificial Intelligence (AI) has provided more solutions to the eLearning industry. It provides an enabling environment for students to enjoy personalized learning experiences. Students can adopt learning styles that suit them using these tools. Examples of these AI tools are Grammarly, Duolingo, and Thinkster. With this development, we should expect to see more AI-supported online learners in 2023.”
“Personalized Learning This is an educational approach that tailors learning and its resources to students' needs and abilities. Each student can make learning decisions based on their strengths and weaknesses. This will boost their knowledge retention and enhance their learning experience.”
“Gamification Taylor and Francis reported that 67% of students prefer gamified courses, as they find them more motivating. This style of learning is the process of using game mechanics in a non-gaming environment to make it more appealing. Examples of these platforms are Khan Academy, Duolingo, SoloLearn, etc.”
