After polling our TOSS ALI membership, one clear interest our leaders communicated to us was how to best use small learning communities to improve student engaged learning. We offered an event on this topic in early February to our school leaders, and we are following up with an event appropriate for all of our ALI subscribers.
Please join Donna Russell from Blount Co., Dr. Renita Perry and Dr. Mason Bellamy from Metro Nashville, and me as we discuss the how, the why, and past and the present of ‘Houses’ in Tennessee’s Schools. I will open this conversation with some ‘research says’ comments that track the history of this work from career academies to ninth grade centers, to middle and high school ‘houses’. Then we will hear from Dr. Bellamy, Dr. Perry, and Ms. Russell as they outline their own system’s ‘how, why, where’ results. You will learn about the actual work being done in our state in two very different systems. We will also give you ample opportunity to share with other leaders in this session so you can walk about ready to plan your small learning communities.
