Thinking Across Years – Age 3 to Grade 3: Discover how to accelerate learning and reduce educational disparities by aligning education services from preschool to early elementary school.

In this presentation, we will explore ways to accelerate learning for all students – and to reduce educational disparities – by considering carefully ways to align education services from preschool (Age 3)  into early elementary school (Grade 3).

In particular, we will:

  • Discuss the need for aligning education before and after kindergarten entry to improve educational achievement

  • Review findings from research and practice about what this alignment entails – ways that child growth and development moves from “preacademic” to “academic” skills, and evidence that promoting development in earlier growth and development contributes to later success

  • Survey methods for describing and teaching these skills, both in preschool and early elementary school, and

  • Discuss participants’ efforts to promote alignment from Age 3 to Grade 3 as they continue to develop and expand early childhood programs in their communities.

This session will be interactive, practical, and informative, providing participants with up-to-date information from research and development that can be used in local school districts programs now.
